Joining an online learning community gives women access to a world of opportunity, growth and empowerment.
Sounds pretty serious doesn’t it?
Truth be told, it is.
In this community, I’m partly amazed and, on the other hand, not surprised at all about how much women are learning about the world, through English. When they have a language in common, they have the tools to find out what else they have in common.
When I first studied English teaching, it was because I wanted to work and travel. I never dreamed of being a teacher – until I was standing in a classroom in Cape Town in front of 12 students from 12 different countries. I realised I didn’t need to travel.
The world was coming to me.
This was 7 years ago and to this day I continue to teach, with enthusiasm and excitement, because of the magic behind teaching English as a second language to foreigners.
The English classroom is a place where the language is the vehicle that allows people to get to know each other and learn about their different cultures.
It is a place that supports curiosity. Students can find all the beautiful similarities that connect us and the differences that make us interested in finding out more.
Universal consciousness is changing. Where people once saw each other as competition – in many cases and many places, we are beginning to realise the power in unity. And that together, we can do so much more. When women come together with a collective intention – magic happens…I’ve seen it in the classroom and now, I’ve seen it happen online via The Ladies’ Project.
Recently, I sat down to facilitate my first Ice-Breaker event in a Zoom online classroom where 10 ladies from 10 completely different countries sat opposite me.
And it took my breath away.
All of a sudden, women don’t have to take time off from work, leave their families, travel all that way to an English speaking country to enrol in an English course.
They can access this incredible, multi-cultural dynamic from their kitchen tables. Mind blown.
I’m partly amazed and, on the other hand, not surprised at all about how much women are learning about the world, through English. When they have a language in common, they have the tools to find out what else they have in common.
There has been some wonderful feedback so far:
It’s nice to find out that we have a common passion.”- Yoshie
“Getting into a deep conversation with someone I’ve never met before was meaningful and valuable.” – Irene (watch video)
“We both have children! I can get advice from her.”- Ruwi
The list of benefits of joining an online learning community for women with dynamic, inspired and supportive teachers and enthusiastic, passionate women keeps growing. The ladies have access to a world of opportunity, growth and empowerment.
As a woman, a teacher, a communication facilitator – I strive to create a safe space in which people from different places and different cultures can firstly, be supported in having a meaningful conversation and secondly, through this exchange, authentically expand their language and polish their accuracy.
And with this, even though miles apart, there is no distance between us.
There’s real connection and authentic communication. Women to women. Women empowering women. Through English.
Super mam.
I think this project is amazing but you are not helping women with beginner levels.
We need to help and encourage our dream.
Speak in English is my dream beside I will love belong the ladies project someday.
I enjoy watching videos about this project.
I’ve always be amazed about how our academic and cultural relationships experiences indepth changes and improvements when we dive inside a second mother tongue. As Alice in wonderland, we need to growe to nine feet tall so that we can barely get an eye down to the doorway and become small enough to follow the Rabbit into the Vale of Tears in order to find out and grip our perception of the world.
This is something incredible
